Passing of Nelson Mandela

Today marks the death of Nelson Mandela. A revered leader. A symbol of triumph over oppression. Reconciliation.

Mandela

Nelson Mandela was truly inspirational. To me, he really embodied dignity and grace. Despite the harshness, unfairness and cruelty that he underwent, he was able to rise above it all and not allow his resentment and bitterness govern his future. He was able to forgive and reconcile with who caused his suffering. Truly, Mandela did not allow his circumstances dictate his reactions. (perspective or circumstances blog post here)

In memory of such a great man, when things get you down and you’re feeling like there is no light in sight…… Remember Mandela.

Mandela 1

I leave you with this quote from Mandela.

“I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.”
